Where Science Meets Curiosity: European Researchers’ Night Highlights

29.09.2025

The European Researchers’ Night, held on September 26, brought together curious minds of all ages to explore the fascinating world of science at the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis (LIOS). The event celebrated curiosity, creativity, and collaboration — values that drive our daily work as scientists and young researchers.

Throughout the evening, visitors had the chance to step into our laboratories and discover how medicines are created — from the earliest stages of molecule design to understanding how a tablet travels through the bloodstream and finds its precise target in the human body. This interactive demonstration showed the complex yet captivating drug discovery process, showing how chemistry, biology, and innovation come together to improve human health.

Many of you asked inspiring questions about how new medicines are developed, recent discoveries have been made, and what motivates scientists to keep exploring. These conversations made the evening special — turning science into a shared experience of wonder and learning.

At LIOS, we are constantly searching for new ways to make a difference. One of our key initiatives, the TargetWise project, is dedicated to identifying new biological targets in the human body. By understanding these targets, we aim to develop more effective and safer therapies that could significantly improve health and life quality.

Your enthusiasm and engagement motivate us to continue our research, innovate, and push the boundaries of what is possible.

We look forward to welcoming you again next year at the European Researchers’ Night — to share even more discoveries, ideas, and inspiration!
